Keon Coleman, a four-star dual-sport athlete, was once a top Michigan State football target before he committed. And now he’s back on the market.

For months before Keon Coleman committed to Kansas to pursue both a football and basketball career, Michigan State made the four-star receiver a priority.

Coleman, a dual-sport athlete who’s also a talented guard, chose Kansas because the Jayhawks gave him the rare opportunity to play football and for an elite basketball program. He picked them over Oklahoma and a host of others, but it’s now looking like he’ll be searching for another program to give him that chance after de-committing last week.

The Louisiana-native is back on the market officially and it may be a while before he officially commits again, but Michigan State needs to get back in the race here.

The fit would just make sense as receiver is a position group that could use some extra depth for 2021 and beyond and he could be added to the basketball roster under Tom Izzo without using up a scholarship (he’d have his via football).

Would there be a spot on Michigan State’s 2021-22 roster? It would all depend on who leaves with Joshua Langford. If Aaron Henry and/or Joey Hauser both leave as well and Enoch Boakye and Emoni Bates don’t both reclassify, there’s a good chance there’d be a spot for him.

Either way, Mel Tucker could use this kid. And MSU basketball could use some guard depth.

Coleman is ranked the No. 115 prospect in the nation and the 14th-best receiver, according to 247Sports. He’s an impressive dual-sport athlete and this is the type of kid who could help build some recruiting momentum for the football program.

If Tucker gets back into the race for Coleman, it would only be beneficial because the four-star wide out said that there are currently no favorites.
