Does Michigan State football have a shot with four-star defensive lineman Rayshaun Benny who just listed the Spartans in his final four?

Rayshaun Benny is one of the most sought-after recruits in the state of Michigan for the 2021 class and he’s nearing a decision.

For months, he’s been speaking highly of the local schools and it seems like the Spartans and Wolverines both have a good shot to land the four-star from Oak Park.

On Sunday, the elite defensive lineman released his final four schools with plans to commit in the coming weeks (potentially on Oct. 25).

Michigan State made the cut.

Obviously Michigan is there as the Wolverines are the presumed favorite, but two familiar programs show up in the final four in Penn State and Kentucky who have both had success recruiting in the state of Michigan for years. Mark Stoops has stolen a few recruits from Michigan and Michigan State and Penn State does so annually.

So does Michigan State have a shot with Benny after making the top four?

Right now, I’m going to say Benny is a near-lock for Michigan. The Wolverines are the clear favorites to land the four-star lineman and it would be a shock if Michigan State were to land him but it would be the biggest recruiting victory for Mel Tucker and Co. thus far — outside of maybe Audric Estime who has been a monster this year.

Michigan State’s chances right now are around five percent and that’s only if Tucker and Co. can win him over in the next couple of weeks.

The Spartans have a bigger need for defensive linemen, but the Wolverines are further ahead as a program right now.
