Luckily for Michigan State, Devontae Dobbs preserved his redshirt during a mediocre 2019 season. He played in just 57 snaps during his true freshman season which consisted of four games, enough to keep that redshirt while still giving him valuable experience against the likes of Rutgers (first career start), Michigan, Northwestern and Western Michigan.

Dobbs came to Michigan State with the 2019 class, once rated a five-star recruit and one of the top-15 players in the country. His ranking dropped a bit, but he was still a top-100 prospect and had the look of a future star in the trenches.

With Chris Kapilovic in town, I wanted to pick one offensive lineman that hasn’t quite had his opportunity yet as a breakout star and Dobbs was an easy choice. Sure, there are guys like JD Duplain and Nick Samac who could be in this spot, but Dobbs is about to go from redshirted to valuable piece on the line soon enough.

Michigan State has a young line and with the right coaching, it can become something special. Don’t be surprised when Dobbs is the centerpiece of a renewed, re-energized front.
