Mel Tucker has assembled an impressive defensive coaching staff for Michigan State football in 2020, but what about the player talent?

Finally, there’s a fresh look in East Lansing. For years, fans were clamoring for staff changes under Mark Dantonio and now with the retirement of the all-time winningest coach in school history, it will get a much-needed shakeup.

There were plenty of people who believed that if Dantonio made the necessary staff changes, he would still be in charge but because he didn’t want to let go of his friends and he shuffled them around, it led to just 14 wins over his final two seasons and a sudden retirement after National Signing Day.

Now Mel Tucker is in town and he’s hired an impressive staff on the defensive side of the ball, highlighted by Harlon Barnett and Scottie Hazelton. Ron Burton and Mike Tressel also return, but the new coordinator is going to have plenty of support around him.

But what about the personnel?

Michigan State has been knocked for being down talent-wise, but there are guys on this side of the ball who could become stars.

Who might start for the Spartans’ defense this fall?
