Michigan State football lands diamond in the rough in 3-star DE Alex Okelo
Michigan State football had been trending for days with uber-talented three-star defensive end Alex Okelo and he officially became a Spartan on Sunday.
Alex Okelo is the definition of raw. He has only been playing high school football for a year after missing his freshman and sophomore seasons to focus on basketball, but he broke out as a junior.
Okelo was coerced to play football because of his tremendous size and upside and he ended up recording 60 tackles and seven sacks from the defensive end spot.
This huge season in his first year back in football led to him getting a handful of offers from the likes of Tennessee, Indiana, Nebraska, Florida State, Louisville, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Kansas, among others. He’s just scratching the surface and he’s not close to how good he truly can be.
Okelo has been trending toward the green and white for days and on Sunday, he made it official and became a Spartan.
With the commitment to Michigan State, Okelo becomes the second-best defensive end committed in the 2021 class behind only Tyson Watson. He’s the Spartans’ fourth-highest ranked recruit and might have the highest upside. If anyone is going to skyrocket up the recruiting rankings this year, it’s Okelo.
The Spartans’ 12th commitment in the 2021 class stands 6-foot-5 and weighs in at 215 pounds and he’s an incredible athlete at the end spot.
Mel Tucker’s class might be gaining some momentum in the coming weeks and this could be the first domino to fall. He’s also trending with a couple of four-stars from New Jersey but Okelo is the biggest diamond in the rough.
Huge win for Tucker here, reeling in a rising star from SEC country.
