Michigan State basketball now owns the Big Ten’s No. 1 class for 2021
After landing four-star point guard Jaden Akins, Michigan State basketball now owns the No. 1 class in the Big Ten for 2021.
Zero months have gone by this summer without a commitment from a top-100 player to Michigan State basketball.
The Spartans kicked things off with a commitment from No. 1 overall recruit Emoni Bates in late June and then followed that up with a pledge from five-star shooting guard Max Christie a week later. A couple weeks later, No. 1 Canadian prospect Enoch Boakye committed and then Jaden Akins capped off an incredible run on Aug. 13.
After landing his fourth commitment from a four or five-star prospect in the span of a month and a half, Tom Izzo looked up only to see Michigan State owning the Big Ten’s No. 1 recruiting class and fourth-best group nationally for 2021, according to 247Sports.
You might be thinking that’s not all that impressive, but when you look closely, you’d realize that this is without Boakye and Bates who are still part of the 2022 class — for now.
As of Aug. 13, Michigan State owns the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation for 2022 with Boakye and Bates and the No. 4 for 2021. If both reclassify to 2021, the Spartans will likely solidify the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
Heck, it would be the best recruiting class Izzo has ever landed if both Boakye and Bates reclassify and it would give the green and white five pledges in one year, each of whom is ranked in the top 100 nationally. That’s a Duke, Kansas or Kentucky-level class that Michigan State isn’t used to landing.
Izzo wants that second national title and you can tell by the way he’s recruiting this cycle. He’s not holding back any longer.
Oh, and don’t let our friends in Ann Arbor see that Michigan State has the No. 1 class in the Big Ten for 2021 now. It’ll ruin their narrative that Juwan Howard is the coach to beat in the state of Michigan. Also, don’t mention that the two best recruits in the state are Michigan State bound.
