Michigan State Basketball: Making case for each starting center option
Julius Marble is the relatively unknown name out of the bunch, which makes him a bit of a wild card. With how wide open the competition is, there’s no reason to think Marble couldn’t be the starter once the season starts, if it does indeed start.
A three-star out of Dallas, Texas, who made up half of Tom Izzo’s two-man 2019 class, Marble hardly saw the court at all in meaningful minutes. When he did see the court, however, he was making highlight plays and exciting the fans.
Marble is an athletic big man who was good for the occasional thunderous dunk to get the fans off their feet, but he really didn’t play much, so it’s hard to evaluate his potential as a starter. He did post nine-point outings in two games this season, one of those with five rebounds against Eastern Michigan, but it’s yet to be seen what he would do with more minutes against Big Ten quality opponents.
The good thing for Marble though is that an increase in minutes is inevitable. So, at the very least, he’ll be one of the first bigs off the bench, and we’ll be able to see what he can do with extended minutes. He is unproven, but exciting nonetheless.
