Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball stayed red-hot on the recruiting trail on Tuesday, landing five-star center Enoch Boakye.

Everyone kind of expected five-star center Enoch Boakye to commit to Michigan State on Tuesday afternoon. He was trending toward the green and white for a few weeks and he decided to make it official, going on CBS Sports Network to announce his decision.

This commitment marked the third time a five-star prospect has picked Michigan State over the past month, starting with Emoni Bates at the end of June and Max Christie a week later.

Boakye is ranked the No. 18 overall prospect in the 2022 class as well as the No. 1 player from Canada, according to the 247Sports composite.

For now, he joins a 2022 class with Bates who happens to be the No. 1 prospect in the nation and he’s even been dubbed the best high school recruit since LeBron James. That’s what you call hype and Michigan State will have plenty of it before the 2021 and 2022 classes get to campus.

Boakye sat down with CBS’ John Rothstein to make his commitment and he even spoke about what a future team with him and Emoni would mean.

One quote stood out above all the rest from the interview above and it was Boakye talking about teaming up with Bates in either the 2021 or 2022 class.

“Emoni Bates is an amazing player, super talented,” Boakye said. “And I really feel like me and him teaming up is going to bring home a national championship.”

Spartan fans love hearing this confidence from a young kid and the commitment of Boakye could help draw Bates to Michigan State rather than him eyeing the G-League. And if both reclassified, they’d join a loaded 2021 class with Christie and Pierre Brooks and that second national title for Tom Izzo could be closer than ever.

Izzo’s hard work continues to pay off in the quest for No. 2 and he may have found the perfect big man with the ideal mindset to bring it home.
