Michigan State Football: 7 wins in a 10-game schedule within reach
Games that are within reach
Big ]-time emphasis on the could here. Do I think we’ll win both of the games I’m about to list? Absolutely not. But if the stars align, it’s not impossible.
This category is comprised of Iowa and Minnesota. I can actually see MSU splitting these games, and under perfect circumstances, beating both of these teams. Hear me out.
I know times have changed a bit, but I look at Iowa and Minnesota and see two teams that Michigan State has a combined 9-1 record against in the last 10 matchups. Yes, most of that includes games where this program was in a better place, but I refuse to be afraid of two teams that haven’t beat Michigan State since I was 14 years old.
Both teams finished in the top-15 with strong bowl wins last season, but I think MSU might be a trap game on Minnesota’s schedule. The Gophers may have snuck by last season while other Big Ten teams were side-tracked by Ohio State, but I think the 2020 season will bring them back down to earth. This is really just based on a very optimistic hunch, so if we get 40-0’ed by them, please don’t bring this article back up.
Iowa, on the other hand, is a game that I’m looking forward to regardless of the result. It seems like no matter what kind of state each program is in, this makes for a great game. By no stretch of the imagination should this be considered a win before the season starts, but it’s within reach.
If you’re still following, this gives us seven games that the Spartans could win. Could, not will. Don’t quote tweet the link to this article and tell me that I predicted seven wins for Michigan State football. I’m making it as clear as possible right now that I think the Spartans will win around 4.5 games. Seven wins is a reach, but distantly possible.
I won’t dedicate a slide to Michigan State losing to Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State, so just imagine those are in their own category of “miracle wins”.
