Michigan State Football: 5 schools the Big Ten must consider adding
3. Iowa State Cyclones
Another program that makes regional sense and may not have the highest upside is Iowa State.
The Cyclones have been a program on the rise under Matt Campbell, however, and as long as he’s in town, Iowa State is going to continue to get better. This wouldn’t be all that bad of an addition for the conference, especially since there’s already a rivalry set in place for the Cyclones, much like Pitt would have Penn State.

Iowa State and Iowa play yearly in a series that has been dominated by the Hawkeyes, but if you added the Cyclones to the league, these battles would carry more weight. It’s a win-win.
Another big rivalry game in the conference and another Midwest team on the league roster wouldn’t be too shabby for the Big Ten.
The problem here would be if Iowa State lost Campbell to a bigger school and the program sunk back into its Rutgers-like state of mediocrity. Then we’d be wondering why the heck the Big Ten added another bottom-dweller.
