Michigan State Football: 5 schools the Big Ten must consider adding
5. Pitt Panthers
Here we see a familiar face. Yes, that’s Pat Narduzzi leading the Pitt Panthers onto the field and if we take regional programs into consideration, they make a lot of sense.
While Pitt isn’t the most successful football program over the past few decades (just two conference titles ever), the Panthers have nine claimed national titles and eight unclaimed titles, making them one of the more historic schools on the gridiron.
It’s been a while since the Panthers last won a national title (1976) but their style of play, especially with the former Michigan State defensive coordinator at the helm, makes sense for the Big Ten. The Panthers would be the ideal addition to the conference if it’s trying to stretch to the east side of the U.S. more and maybe add a Penn State rival.
A yearly conference battle between Pitt and Penn State would reignite that rivalry and while they already face off each season, more would be on the line in a league duel.
Pitt would be an interesting, yet not overly rewarding, addition.
