Michigan State basketball is showing some major interest in five-star power forward Jalen Washington from Indiana for 2022 class.

The 2021 class is taking shape for Tom Izzo after landing Pierre Brooks back in April, Max Christie on Tuesday afternoon and Emoni Bates, pending a potential reclassification, last week.

Heck, even the 2020 class could be on the radar in the next couple of weeks with the potential college decision of Karim Mane, a five-star combo guard from Canada, approaching.

So obviously with the 2021 class winding down and 2020 all but sewn up, Izzo is going to start to turn his focus toward the 2022 cycle.

Right now, there are a few major targets on the board, led by Enoch Boakye and Ty Rodgers, and five-star big man Jalen Washington has joined the fold. According to reports, the Spartans have been one of five teams to reach out to Washington over the past week.

Michigan, Alabama, Purdue and Tulsa joined the Spartans in contacting the five-star power forward last week and if Izzo continues to recruit the way he has been over the past couple of weeks, Washington could be a Spartan before we know it.

What could Michigan State basketball’s 2022 class look like?

Right now, Emoni is technically in the 2022 class, so he’s the official start of it, but the Spartans are looking at Boakye, a four-star center and No. 1 Canadian player, as well as Rodgers, one of the state of Michigan’s top prospects. If they can land both of those along with Emoni and then add some post depth with Washington, that’d be another elite group.

Washington is ranked the No. 17 overall player and fourth-best power forward in the 2022 class, according to the composite. He stands 6-foot-8 and 200 pounds.

Just imagine a future post with Washington and Boakye roaming the paint. Scary thought.
