Recruiting

The time and effort Tom Izzo put into recruiting Emoni Bates just paid off in a huge way. This not only includes the fact that he just recruited the “best high school prospect since LeBron,” but it also includes the impact this will have for Michigan State recruiting until he retires.

If Emoni ends up playing as a Spartan, he could potentially have a Magic Johnson-type of influence in East Lansing. Now, obviously it’s a bit forward to compare him to Magic Johnson, but if his career pans out as expected, he could be one of the best basketball players in the NBA. That in itself would make Tom Izzo’s job 50 times easier as a recruiter.

This also has an effect on the 2021 and 2022 classes specifically. The idea of being able to play alongside the best basketball player in high school is an intriguing idea for targets like Jaden Akins and Max Christie. This team will be a contender if Emoni comes to East Lansing. Who wouldn’t want to play with him?
