Michigan State Football: 3 Spartans with most to prove in 2020
Jay Johnson has admitted multiple times that the tight end will be the MVP of his offense. He has stated that he likes to use tight ends in a variety of ways and they’re the keys to success.
That has to be music to Matt Dotson’s ears.
Coming off a season-ending injury in 2019, Dotson was rounding into shape as a solid starting tight end. He was in the midst of a career year, catching 16 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown in only seven games. Those numbers were all going to shatter his previous career-highs from 2018, but the injury denied that.
Now that he’s on track to return to full-strength for his final season at Michigan State, he wants to prove to the new staff that he can be that first “star” tight end in Johnson’s system. He wants to be the MVP of the offense and maybe even work his way into a draft pick.
Dotson has all the talent at tight end as a route-runner and athlete so all he needs to do is work on blocking and stay healthy. He is waiting to finally break out and he could do just that in a new system with a much-needed fresh start.
