3. Chance to develop a consistent jumper

If there’s one area in Xavier Tillman’s game that could use a complete makeover, it’s his mid-to-long range shooting. He’s decent, not great, in the post (we’ll touch on that later) but his jump shot leaves plenty to be desired. He has the ability to step out and take shots from deep, stretching the floor, but not at a high enough clip.

We’ve seen his jumper improve over his three years in East Lansing and he doesn’t have bad form, he just doesn’t have enough confidence in it.

In the NBA, if you’re an undersized big who doesn’t have a solid jump shot, there’s not much of a market for you. Even if he did get drafted, he’d have to develop that jumper quickly if he wanted to get any minutes in his first year and if he doesn’t improve, he may be riding the pine and Tillman’s confidence would take a major hit.

Another year in East Lansing could guarantee him extra time to perfect that jumper and work on his confidence when shooting from mid-range and deep.

Tillman is a career 27 percent 3-point shooter and if he can get that close to 35 percent in his senior year, his stock will drastically improve. Stretching the floor is a big deal.
