Michigan State basketball target Jeremy Sochan leaps into top 40 of Rivals150
One of Michigan State basketball’s top targets in the 2021 class, Jeremy Sochan, finally made an appearance in the Rivals150.
Michigan State extended an offer to four-star small forward Jeremy Sochan just last week and it was surprising given the fact that the Spartans seem to be zeroing in on guys like Jaden Akins and Max Christie, but adding another top target to the list can’t hurt.
The chances of landing all Plan A guys is usually slim to none unless you’re Duke, Kansas or Kentucky and that’s why Tom Izzo felt it was necessary to set up backup plans.
Sochan is much more than your typical ‘backup plan’ though. He’s one of the best small forward recruits in the nation and a top-75 recruit via the composite rankings.
On Tuesday, Rivals updated its top 150 rankings for the class of 2021 and Sochan got one of the biggest boosts of any recruit. He went from unranked in the recent Rivals150 to No. 40 in the country. That’s a massive boost for a kid who deserves more respect for being one of the best recruits in the nation.
Where Sochan stands with Michigan State basketball
While Sochan was the latest Michigan State offer, he has to be in the top three in terms of targets for the Spartans. First, there’s Akins and then Christie and then you had to have Sochan followed by Charles Bediako, Kobe Bufkin and then unranked James Graham who was also offered last week.
It seems as if Michigan State is going to try to round out its class with Akins and Christie which would give the Spartans three top-75 recruits nationally and arguably the top class in the Big Ten, but if the latter doesn’t pan out, adding Sochan would be huge.
Best-case scenario, Michigan State finishes its class with some combination of Sochan, Akins, Christie and Bediako.
