At one point, BJ Cunningham was thought to have a chance to be the best wide receiver in Michigan State’s history. And while he never really achieved GOAT status, he capped of a great career with the Spartans with a 79-catch, 12-touchdown, 1,300-yard season. This was preceded by three straight seasons with over 500 yards, making him the all time leading receiver in the green and white.

Somehow, and I desperately need someone to explain this to me, he dropped to the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. I’ve read reports that his small hand measurement led to his stock dropping quite a bit. That’s not a joke, it’s just the only reason why NFL GMs wouldn’t draft the guy until as late as they did.

Cunningham hopped around practice squads for a few years before ending up signing a contract with the Montreal Allouettes of the CFL. After a slow start, he was starting to put together a strong career in Canada, posting over a 1,000 yards receiving in his last healthy season before being taken down by injuries.
