Michigan State Basketball Starting Five: SG

If Karim Mane doesn’t commit, Rocket Watts would be the likely starting point guard, but in a perfect world, he is the two-guard next to the incoming freshman.

A backcourt with Watts and Mane would arguably be the most intriguing and athletic in the Big Ten and would be a nightmare for opponents.

Entering his sophomore year, Watts looks like one of the fastest-rising stars in the country. This could be his last year in East Lansing because he feels like a breakout candidate. He averaged 9.0 points and 1.7 assists per game as a freshman while shooting 39 percent from the field and 28 percent from deep. Those shooting numbers aren’t great, but they improved at the end of the season.

Watts also plays great defense and his ability to create for himself on the offensive end is impressive.

Expect Rocket to launch into stardom in 2020-21 as an All-Big Ten player.
