Honorable Mention: Toledo, Minnesota

The first of the two is Toledo. And while the Spartans should win this game pretty handily, they could easily walk out of Spartan Stadium with a loss.

Michigan State has actually never lost against the Toledo Rockets in the history of their matchups. Impressive, yes, but that only included a single game in 1925, so it’s not actually impressive at all. The Rockets went 6-6 in 2019, including a win at BYU. This is noteworthy because I consider BYU to be toss-up game for MSU in 2020.

The Spartans should win this game, yes, but don’t be surprised if they’re caught off guard at home early in the year.

As you’ll begin to notice, these two games aren’t so much toss-ups, but rather matchups that I have a strong opinion on.

The other game I’ve included in the honorable mentions section is Minnesota.

Yes, Minnesota won the Big Ten West last season going 10-2, but I don’t think it’s an automatic loss this coming season. To find Michigan State’s last loss against Minnesota, you have to go back six matchups to 2009.

While I think PJ Fleck is one of the best coaches in college football, I believe the Spartans will bring the Gophers back down to earth in this late season matchup.
