Say what you want about Mel Tucker, but the new coach is bringing excitement back to Michigan State football. Even the game day music gets an upgrade.

Say what you will about Mel Tucker (especially you, Colorado fans), but the man has so much sauce he might just get lost in it. He’s active on social media, throwing up recruitment bat signals and breathing life into a recruitment apparatus that was badly needed.

One of the things that Tucker has done to ingratiate himself to the Spartan faithful, besides giving the boot to Dave Warner, is release some of the songs he listens to on a game day on Spotify (and later, on Apple Music).

Although there are some hard hitters and respectable deep cuts spread across them, nobody is perfect.

So, seeing as this is my first post for Spartan Avenue, there are no sports to watch, and that I know as much about recruiting as I do about epidemiology, I’d figure it would be productive (from a certain point of view) to take a listen to each playlist, live record my thoughts, then share my peace about the songs Coach Tucker has chosen on a four-tiered scale, which is as follows:

  • Boomer (this is obviously the lowest)
  • Overused
  • Mid
  • Banger (this is obviously the highest)

The first, and most obvious, thing that jumps out about these playlist is that all the songs are in their edited versions, which, quite frankly, is lame. From a practical perspective, I get it. You don’t wanna put your name on a piece of media riddled with explicit lyrics that won’t sit well with some fans.

Without further adieu, here’s the definitive (AKA mine) ranking of the songs on Tucker’s game day playlists, from boomer to banger.
