Michigan State Football: Each quarterback’s chance of starting in 2020
Theo Day
Theo Day finds himself in the first spot on this list, as he’s the clear fan favorite and (hopefully) the frontrunner to lead Jay Johnson’s offense. If I had to bet on it, I’d put all of my money on Theo marching onto the field with the offense Week 1 against Northwestern.
Day has only thrown three passes in a Michigan State Football uniform. That being said, he has a higher completion percentage and quarterback rating than the most experienced quarterback on the roster. He also doesn’t have more interceptions than touchdowns. All jokes aside, Day does seemingly have the highest ceiling among eligible quarterbacks on this list.
He’s the only former four-star player on this list, coming into East Lansing as the ninth-ranked pro-style quarterback in the country. He had other notable offers from Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin and was among the highest regarded quarterbacks in the Midwest.
Day didn’t have much of a chance to get playing time under Mark Dantonio, as the old coach was too stubborn to play him, even with Rocky Lombardi beginning to struggle in Brian Lewerke’s absence. Day will more than likely get his chance under new HC Mel Tucker.
