Michigan State football hosted four-star 2021 quarterback Kaidon Salter for a virtual visit on Sunday and it left a lasting impression.

Recruiting has taken center stage for Mel Tucker and Co. as the new Michigan State staff had landed its sixth commitment in the past few weeks on Monday afternoon.

One day earlier, however, the staff hosted top quarterback target Kaidon Salter for a virtual visit which has seemingly put the Spartans in a good position to land him.

After speaking with Spartan Mag‘s Corey Robinson, it’s apparent Michigan State made up some major ground and the Spartans would likely be in his “top group” if he narrowed his list down from 11 today.

The Spartans must have done enough on the virtual visit to make up ground that would otherwise have to wait until the ban on in-person recruiting is lifted. He was likely told he was the staff’s top priority at quarterback in the 2021 class during the visit and their focus on him has intensified since Peter Costelli, a four-star quarterback target, committed to Utah recently.

Another name to watch in the 2021 class at quarterback is Hampton Fay, a three-star, who likely would be ranked much higher if he was not injured three games into the 2019 season.

If the Spartans prioritize Salter, they’ll have to beat out programs like Baylor, Arkansas, Auburn and Tennessee, among some others. Being in his top group after a virtual visit is a huge development, seeing as he has still yet to visit campus. Just imagine what an in-person tour will do for Michigan State here.

Salter is ranked the No. 88 overall prospect and fourth-best dual-threat in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports. He would be Tucker’s biggest commitment as Michigan State head coach, but there’s a long way to go.
