Michigan State football lands monster 3-star DT Derrick Harmon
Michigan State football picked up its fourth commitment in the past two weeks on Wednesday in three-star defensive tackle Derrick Harmon.
It didn’t take long for Mel Tucker to go from zero commitments in the 2021 class to four as he picked up a Detroit-native in Derrick Harmon on Wednesday.
The monster three-star defensive tackle is ranked the No. 1,077 player in the class and Michigan’s 31st-best prospect, according to the composite. He’s also listed as the No. 59 defensive tackle in the class.
Memphis, Ole Miss and Purdue were also high on the 320-pound prospect from Detroit but Tucker and his staff swooped in and made up serious ground with him.
Size is one thing you can’t teach and Harmon has plenty of it, standing 6-foot-3 with that wide 320-pound frame. He will be able to eat up a lot of space on the interior and while he could afford to add some speed, he has plenty of strength on the inside.
On film, Harmon is just a flat-out bully to opposing linemen and even though he can be caught standing straight up off the snap sometimes, he has enough strength to fight through the line and make plays in the backfield. He can always work on his technique at the next level, but his ceiling is incredibly high.
Harmon joins a class with Davion Primm, Ethan Boyd and Gabe Nealy already and if Tucker’s post on Twitter is any sign of things to come, there will be more commitments this week. The staff is generating some serious momentum.
