Rebuilding Michigan State’s relationship with the city of Detroit is crucial for Mel Tucker if he wants to have success in East Lansing. The city is rich with talent and Jaylen Reed may just be the best prospect in the class from Detroit.

Reed is actually committing on Thursday evening and there’s talk that he’s likely down to Michigan State and Penn State, but he makes this list because, even if he chooses the Nittany Lions, the Spartans will continue to recruit him. Even if he makes a verbal pledge to James Franklin, there’s no reason to believe Tucker will give up on this one.

Michigan State is trying to keep Reed home and it’s because he’s one of the best safety prospects in the class and he’s familiar with the program.

In fact, Reed is ranked the No. 237 overall recruit and 10th-best safety in the 2021 class. He’s Michigan’s eighth-best recruit and he’s also being pursued by Georgia and USC heavily.
