8. Malik Hall’s two perfect games

Malik Hall played two games on the East Coast during his freshman season and that’s where he had his two best games of the season.

There’s no doubt about it, Hall is going to be a special player for Michigan State throughout his career, but he had a relatively quiet freshman campaign. He was solid, but not exactly a breakout performer, but he did show flashes of greatness. And those flashes came against Seton Hall and Maryland on the road.

Early in the season, Michigan State traveled to No. 12 Seton Hall and the freshman had the best game of his young career, putting the team on his back in the second half to engineer a comeback and even score the game-winning layup with 30 seconds left. He finished the game with 17 points and five rebounds on 7-for-7 shooting from the floor and 3-for-3 from three.

Late in the year, Michigan State needed a win at No. 9 Maryland to stay in the hunt for the Big Ten title and it played one of its most complete games of the season. That was aided by Hall’s perfect 5-for-5 from the floor while making his only three. He finished with 16 points and six rebounds.

Hall only scored in double figures twice in 2019-20, but when he did, he was perfect.

Against two top-15 East Coast teams on the road, he was a combined 12-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-4 from 3-point range, finishing with a 16.5-point, 5.5-rebound average. Not too shabby.
