One of the guys who fans probably wanted to see redshirted was Julian Barnett, but Mark Dantonio found it too difficult to keep him off the field.

Talent just oozes through this kid’s pores and that was never more obvious than during his freshman season when he made the switch from cornerback to receiver and didn’t miss a beat. He pulled a reverse Justin Layne, going from four-star corner to wide out and making it look easy, finishing the year with 13 catches for 182 yards — nine of those went for first downs.

While Barnett looked like a budding star on offense, it was clear that his calling was on the defensive side of the ball and he even admitted he felt at home on defense.

Luckily the new staff has listened and moved him to cornerback, at least on the first official roster that was released earlier this week.

Barnett is my early pick to win a starting cornerback job for the Spartans as Harlon Barnett is going to mold him into the next lockdown defensive back — it won’t be that difficult of a job because he has all the talent already.

Watch out for the second coming of the ‘No Fly Zone’ in 2020, led by Barnett.
