2. Clutch play down the stretch at No. 12 Seton Hall

This was one of the wins that people seem to forget and/or sweep under the rug. Michigan State came into the game at 1-1 overall and hoping to avoid that dreaded 1-2 start.

Seton Hall, on the other hand, was 2-0 and looked like one of the best teams in the country. They had an impressive returning cast and Myles Powell was considered one of the best players in the country at the start of the year and boy did he ever live up to that billing, even with a hampered ankle.

The game was close throughout with the Spartans and Pirates trading blows, but Malik Hall was the unlikely hero — although Cassius Winston, too, had a heroic moment — as he hit the go-ahead layup (which should have been an and-one) with 26 seconds left which sealed the win.

Hall went perfect from the field and really made himself look like a future star in this one as the Spartans used this win as a confidence-booster.

Not many people, including myself, saw Michigan State winning this game before the season, let along with Powell going off for 37 points, but the Spartans showed up when it mattered.
