Michigan State football is hoping to win over Donovan Edwards and the Spartans’ chances got a boost on Friday thanks to Ohio State.

The rich continue to get richer, but Ohio State landing another five-star prospect on Friday evening may have actually helped the Spartans.

How, you ask? Well, Ohio State landed the No. 1 running back in the 2021 recruiting class and the Buckeyes were one of the favorites in the recruitment of four-star West Bloomfield (Mich.) High running back Donovan Edwards who has been a top priority for Mel Tucker and his staff.

Edwards has been talking about opening up his recruitment and giving teams a fair shot and if that’s the case, Michigan State may very well be in the mix.

With Ohio State landing TreVeyon Henderson, that essentially eliminates the Buckeyes from the running as they also have four-star Evan Pryor (a top-100 recruit) committed. They are full at running back so there’s no way a third top-100 back will pick the Buckeyes because of the splitting of carries.

Michigan State doesn’t have a single commit in its 2021 class because of the coaching changes and COVID-19 halting everything, but Tucker has been in constant contact with Edwards.

Edwards is ranked the No. 38 overall recruit and third-best running back in the 2021 class, according to the composite. He’s one of the most highly sought-after players in the country and the Spartans will be battling it out with Georgia and Michigan now.

Who would have thought that a five-star commitment to Ohio State would actually help the new staff in East Lansing?
