Michigan State Football: Best, worst and middle case scenarios for 2020
Best-case scenario
As of right now, there should be few concerns for the Spartans on defense. Mel Tucker has brought in a strong defensive staff, capped off with Kansas State defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton who has had a strong impact on every defense that he has coordinated, most recently improving Kansas State’s defense from 61st to 47th in SP+.
Tucker will bring an entirely new energy to this squad. There are very few starters from previous years, so this will be a new look Michigan State Spartans team.
For the first time in three years, we’ll be watching a new quarterback under center. We’ll see a new-look defensive line. A refreshed secondary. Tucker’s new staff will be out to prove themselves, and the Spartans will play with an edge that we haven’t seen since the 2015 season.
This best-case scenario puts Michigan State anywhere between 9-3 and undefeated national champions. This scenario has MSU winning most of their games, dropping close matchups against Ohio State, Penn State and Iowa. The Spartans blow out the Michigan Wolverines in East Lansing and everyone’s happy.
The only downside to this scenario is that it probably won’t happen.
