Gone is Darrell Stewart Jr. and that leaves a big void in the receiving corps. He was a do-it-all receiver who could burn his defender deep, go out for a 10-yard route to get a clutch first down or take a screen pass and turn it into a big gain. He was having a career year before he went down with an injury and missed most of the second half of the season.

Cody White is gone as well, but Terry Lockett is more like Stewart Jr.

In fact, he’s got plenty of speed and stands 6-foot-0 and 165 pounds. He could afford to add a little weight and muscle, but he adds speed to the Spartans’ receiving corps and that’s exactly what Mel Tucker likes to see.

Michigan State’s receiving corps took a major hit, but with Lockett coming in, Tucker may give him a chance to prove himself from day one.

The Spartans need receivers who can stretch the field and he would be a great addition to play a Jalen Nailor-type role and give the offense options in the passing game.
