With the Michigan State basketball regular season in the books, which Spartans received the highest grades for their performances in 2019-20?

What a roller-coaster of a season it’s been for Michigan State. The Spartans began the season as the No. 1 ranked team but got news that Josh Langford would miss the year with a lingering injury and Joey Hauser was denied immediate eligibility by the NCAA.

Michigan State would lose to Kentucky in the Champions Classic, dropping from No. 1 right away. And then they went to the Maui Invitational and lost to Virginia Tech, missing an opportunity to face Kansas or Dayton in the title game. Shortly after, the Spartans returned home for a big game against Duke and fell at the Breslin Center in blowout fashion.

The team would get hot for the next month, or so, and they wouldn’t lose another game until it traveled to Purdue — and it wasn’t pretty.

The next month, the Spartans would drop out of the rankings after losing three straight games, but they climbed their way back into the Top 25 with wins in six of their final seven games. They beat five ranked teams in their final seven games and rose all the way to No. 9 in the final regular season AP Top 25.

From No. 1 to unranked back to No. 9 is quite the ride, but Michigan State won a regular season Big Ten title and is one of the hottest teams in college basketball ahead of the NCAA Tournament.

Without further ado, let’s get to the report card.
