Bench

It was a rather unproductive night from the Spartans’ bench on Saturday, finishing with six total points, eight rebounds and an assist.

Thomas Kithier: B-

While there were some instances where Thomas Kithier made questionable plays and missed a bunny in the second half that kept Maryland’s momentum rolling, he played some solid minutes. He had a couple of tipped rebounds which led to second-chance points for MSU, and for that, he gets a passing grade.

Kyle Ahrens: B+

The spark off the bench continued his ways against Maryland. The bench finished with just six points collectively and all six came from Kyle Ahrens. The senior wing hit a couple of big threes off the bench and continues to give the Spartans good minutes.

Julius Marble: C+

Honestly, I’m shocked that Julius Marble played nine minutes on Saturday because it was the quietest nine minutes of the season. He gave Tom Izzo good minutes off the bench defensively, but didn’t record a single stat. Since he was relatively quiet (which can be a good thing), he gets a C+ here.

Gabe Brown: C+

Gabe Brown has been a ghost lately and that needs to change if Michigan State wants to make a deep run in March. He played only five minutes and missed the only shot he took. He did have a big offensive rebound and an assist as well.

Marcus Bingham Jr.: C

The highlight of the night for Marcus Bingham Jr. was him not backing down when Jalen Smith got in his face and that actually impressed me. He didn’t shy away or back down from a guy who acted entitled all night but other than that, he recorded no stats outside of two fouls (one was that technical).

Foster Loyer: C

Like Bingham Jr., Foster Loyer didn’t record any stats outside of a missed jumper. He played just two minutes as well.
