Trenton Gillison came to Michigan State as a four-star recruit back in 2018, but didn’t get on the field much his freshman year, and only appeared in six games this past season, catching 12 passes for 147 yards. His best game of the season came in the Pinstripe Bowl against Wake Forest, with four receptions for 88 yards, while one of those receptions went for 64 yards and set up a scoring play.

The tight end position was never a huge focus under Mark Dantonio and if Mel Tucker can emphasize that position, the Spartan offense will become even more dynamic than it already has the potential to be.

Gillison was playing behind tight ends Matt Seybert and Matt Dotson, but now that Seybert has graduated, and Dotson proving unreliable, he should go into spring as the starter.

Gillison is a big, athletic body who will provide a reliable target for whoever the starting quarterback is. Expect him to have a stellar redshirt sophomore campaign.
