Much like Kenny Goins’ “nut up or shut up” quote last season, Michigan State basketball got another gem from sophomore guard Aaron Henry.

A year ago, Michigan State was fighting through a three-game losing streak and fans were starting to abandon ship. The Spartans had plenty of talent, but losing Josh Langford for the season and going on a mid-Big Ten play skid put a damper on the season’s outlook.

And then Kenny Goins delivered the quote of the season.

Michigan State then went on to win 10 of its final 11 games which included the Big Ten Tournament and that led to a Final Four run. The Spartans finished the season 14-2 following that epic quote from the senior leader and Michigan State may have gotten another one from a sophomore this time around during a rough stretch.

Following practice this week, Aaron Henry talked to the media about lessons learn from recent losses and this is what he had to say:

This is an all-timer from Henry. Not only is it a great quote, but if he truly believes this, then we could see his season turn around as well. He’s struggled with consistency and learning lessons from his poor performances so maybe this was a drastic mindset change.

The team needs to buy into this attitude as well and if they do and this is the quote that drives a run similar to last year’s then we might just see Henry grow into a leadership role.

Tom Izzo touched on how close his team has been to winning 6-7 more games and he’s been right. Michigan State has found ways to lose lately instead of the other way around. That needs to change.
