Donovan Eaglin, a three-star running back from Texas, committed to Michigan State football on Wednesday night and he’s going to be good.

If Donavon Eaglin didn’t suffer an injury that limited his junior season to just 30 carries, he’d be a much more highly sought-after back. He didn’t camp out much, either, which made him one of the more unknowns in the 2020 recruiting class.

But Michigan State did its homework and got the scoop on the three-star running back from Manvel, Texas, landing him over Oklahoma State on Wednesday.

When you talk about recruiting diamonds in the rough, this kid fits the bill. He wasn’t a big name because of the fact he missed his junior season and didn’t attend many camps which is prime time for schools to really scout players. He broke out as a senior with over 1,500 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns on over 9.0 yards per touch.

The 5-foot-11, 215-pound back not only has speed to scoot by defenders, but he’s a master at creating something out of nothing. What I mean by this is that he can turn what will look to be a loss or 1-2 yard gain into a 50-yard touchdown.

Just watch:

Eaglin’s highlights are impressive and that should make Spartan fans happy because he has enough elusiveness to keep defenders guessing and he can show the patience to wait for holes to open and burst through.

Diamond in the rough, overlooked and underrated are all cliches you could use to describe this kid and they’re all accurate. Eaglin is ranked the No. 1,774 recruit in the class as well as the 104th-best running back, according to 247Sports.

Eaglin will form a devastating one-two punch with fellow 2020 class commit Jordan Simmons who is considered one of the better backs in the class and he plans to sign with MSU in February.
