After an incredible season, Michigan State football recruit Ricky White deserves a fourth star from recruiting services. Why hasn’t it happened yet?

Ricky White has had a solid high school career but his senior year has been nothing short of unbelievable for Marietta High in Georgia.

After drawing plenty of Power Five interest over the past year before committing to Michigan State in June, White went from relative unknown to three-star receiver, ranked No. 814 nationally, according to the composite.

White’s list of offers won’t blow anyone away, but he has the talent to grab the attention of some powerhouses in the Power Five and there was even a rumor going around that his recruitment might be heating up and Michigan State would have a tough time keeping him.

For now, White remains a Spartan and it looks like that’s how it will end up, but there’s still one major question regarding him as a recruit: how the heck is he ranked so low?

I get it, stars don’t mean much to Mark Dantonio and his staff as he’s churned out dozens of solid former two and three-star players, but White seems to be much more than that. Catching 92 passes with 16 touchdowns in high school seems to be worthy of some sort of rankings bump, especially since he’s playing in the talent-rich state of Georgia and already improved his stock this past summer.

No matter what we say about stars not mattering, they’re still earned and White has done more than earn that fourth star and a ranking somewhere inside the top-800 — that’s almost a joke of a ranking at this point given how well he’s performed and how highly he’s valued nationally.

White might never get that fourth star, and that’s OK. He’ll come to East Lansing with that chip on his shoulder and he’ll be All-Big Ten before we know it.
