Bench

Let’s just say the depth on this team is unfair if Julius Marble can come out in garbage time because he’s good enough to be a solid rotational piece on most power conference teams.

Kyle Ahrens: B

The energy Kyle Ahrens brings to the floor is contagious and there’s a reason he’s one of Tom Izzo’s favorite go-to role players. He is playing with reckless abandon this year and he finished with six points, two assists and a steal with a number of fist-pump inducing hustle plays in 15 minutes.

Foster Loyer: B-

It wasn’t Foster Loyer’s best game as he continued to be passive, which is my biggest complaint, and he finished 1-for-1 from the floor with three assists, a rebound and a steal. He didn’t play poorly, but he was a relative non-factor outside of those three assists.

Malik Hall: A-

If you’re looking for a potential fan favorite for the next 3-4 years, Malik Hall is your man. The freshman forward had another solid game, finishing with six points, four rebounds and three assists. Hall’s basketball IQ is through the roof and he’s getting more confident by the day.

Marcus Bingham Jr.: B+

Quietly, Marcus Bingham Jr. had one of the better games of anyone on Monday night. Watching the game live, you may not have realized it, but all you have to do is look at the stat sheet to see he absolutely stuffed it. He finished with six points, six rebounds, four blocks, an assist and a steal. He needs to add some muscle still, but he’s fairly consistent with his play.

Julius Marble: B+

Man, this kid is going to dominate in garbage time this year and that’s just not fair for opponents. Never before has Tom Izzo had this kind of depth to where he can play a talented guy like Julius Marble with the walk-ons. He finished with a career-high nine points with a rebound and he was 4-for-5 from the field. He’s money with his post moves and short game.

Conner George: B

It was interesting to see Conner George in the game before garbage time, but he played well when he was in there early on. He got in again at the end with the rest of the walk-ons and played like a vet. He had a nifty reverse layup, three rebounds and a block. Quality minutes for a guy who doesn’t usually see the floor much.

Jack Hoiberg: B

You have to give it up to this kid. A year ago, he would have gotten the Steven Izzo treatment with people on their feet when he entered the game, but because he looks much more polished and willing to run the point, he doesn’t even feel like a walk-on. He’s got experience, plays with confidence and he finished with four points, two assists, two rebounds and a steal.
