1. Michigan State goes 3-1

If Michigan State was entering the final month of play in the thick of the Big Ten title hunt and even with a tie or one-game lead in the East, you’d have to put your money on the Spartans. Why? Because the schedule plays in their favor, big-time.

Everyone knew that if Michigan State could maneuver through the month of October with only one loss, it would have a serious shot at the East title just because the season ended with Illinois, Rutgers and Maryland. Michigan does break up those games, but when the Spartans are contenders, at least in the past decade, the Wolverines have a tough time beating them.

Well, since reality has hit and the Spartans are 4-4 and still out of bowl contention, they’ll need to have a big month. Will that mean beating Michigan? It’s possible, but I’m going to say no.

The Spartans will finish the season 3-1 with wins over Illinois, Rutgers and Maryland and a close loss to the Wolverines.

This time around, though, I think the Spartans will win their winnable bowl game and finish the year with an 8-5 record. Disappointing? Yes, but a good way to build toward a rebound in 2020.
