4. The Spartans will be battle-tested

When you think about Michigan State’s best teams, they’re usually battle-tested by the time the NCAA Tournament rolls around. Tom Izzo does a good job of schedule tough opponents and this season is no different.

The Spartans open the season against No. 2 Kentucky in the Champions Classic, potentially get No. 3 Kansas later in the month of November to close out the Maui Invitational, No. 4 Duke comes to town for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and they travel to No. 12 Seton Hall in the middle of all this opening month madness. That’s four top-15 teams in the first month.

Not to mention the fact that the Spartans play in one of the toughest conferences in the nation with teams like Michigan, Purdue, Maryland, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio State testing them week in and week out.

Michigan State might end up being the most tested team in non-conference play heading into the Big Ten season and then they’ll only get stronger against more top-tier foes.

When March rolls around, the Spartans will know what it takes to prepare for and beat the best teams in the field because they’ll have done that already from day one.
