1. Michigan State gets Tom Izzo No. 2

Tom Izzo wants No. 2 more than just about anything else. He won his first national title back in 2000 when he was just a young coach in his first five years, but he has gone without one for the past two decades. He’s come close, making eight Final Fours, including last season, but he has yet to win that elusive second title.

Well, expect another Final Four run this season, his ninth, to go along with another national title game appearance (his third) which will be his first since 2009.

Finally, the Spartans will overcome the Final Four curse and win the national title. Going 0-for-2 in his last two national title game appearances and 0-for-7 in the previous Final Four appearances (meaning he hasn’t won a title in those appearances), Izzo will change his fortune thanks to a crafty point guard who will become an all-time great Spartan.

Is this bold? Absolutely. Even preseason No. 1 teams aren’t guaranteed to hold that spot or even become No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, but this team just has the right chemistry and leaders.

And Izzo is hungry.

It’s tough to be optimistic in college basketball because literally anything can happen to crush dreams (Middle Tennessee) but the Spartans have the right pieces. If Joey Hauser is eligible, that will only strengthen the case for Izzo’s second title.
