Michigan State football could be close to landing one of the best commits in Georgia State’s 2020 class in three-star linebacker Tyson Meiguez.

There has been plenty of talk about Michigan State’s 2020 class being less heralded than cycles in years past and Mark Dantonio and his staff seem to be putting forth a greater effort to land some talented players who are committed to other schools.

On Wednesday, the Spartans offered three-star quarterback Noah Kim who was originally committed to Virginia Tech and they’re getting a big visit this weekend from three-star Georgia Tech linebacker commit Tyson Meiguez from the Peach State.

It’s tough to gauge the interest from guys committed to other programs, especially players who haven’t exactly been on the radar for too long and from SEC country, but it looks like the Spartans have a more than decent shot with Meiguez who has been in touch with recent commit Jordan Simmons regarding the green and white.

Meiguez would be a tremendous haul for the Spartans from Georgia as he is ranked the No. 559 overall prospect in the 2020 class and is the 32nd-best outside linebacker, per 247Sports.

A few spots have opened up in the Spartans’ 2020 class thanks to a rash of transfers — six to be exact — over the past month. Michigan State will use those to strengthen the incoming class and add depth to key positions. Linebacker is one that could afford to be bolstered even though the future is bright in the middle of the defense.

Meiguez seems to be giving Michigan State a fair shot in this one and even though he’s still committed to Georgia Tech, a lot could change this weekend.
