Michigan State basketball got some unfortunate news on Monday morning as four-star point guard Jalen Terry de-committed. Who could replace him?

After a forgettable weekend for Michigan State athletics, the basketball program received some bad news on Monday afternoon when four-star point guard Jalen Terry de-committed.

It was a bit shocking to see a kid who had been committed since April decide to open up his recruitment again out of the blue.

This news took me by surprise because the kid has seemed all green and white for about six months now and we are approaching the start of the 2019-20 season but it seemed as if he didn’t want to have to split time at the point guard position with recently-committed combo guard AJ Hoggard.

While the two aren’t exactly mirror images of each other, both have the capability to play the point even though I would have liked to see Hoggard more in the two role with Terry running the one spot. They would have complemented each other nicely, but Terry may want to go somewhere that he can be ‘the guy’ at point guard and Michigan State may have too many cooks in the kitchen, so to speak.

Other than Hoggard, the Spartans would likely have Foster Loyer and Rocket Watts who could play the position.

So who could replace Terry in the 2020 class, assuming he doesn’t re-commit to the Spartans (which is always a possibility)?

If you take a look at the 2020 targets, Bryce Thompson seems like the only guard who is a possibility, but he’s a long-shot, at best. Unfortunately, I don’t see Michigan State adding anyone else to that position, or even in the class at all as the Isaiah Jackson ship, too, has sailed.

Michigan State could either re-recruit Terry or stash the scholarship for the 2021 class and try to land another elite group.
