Every year, fans and students alike pack into the Breslin Center for an intro to the Michigan State basketball season. Midnight Madness has been announced.

Michigan State has huge expectations for this year’s basketball squad. Some think they can go all the way and win not only the Big Ten but also the NCAA Tournament.

Every year, though, before the season tips off, Michigan State has this tradition called Michigan State Madness — or Midnight Madness.

It’s the start of the basketball season where both the men’s and women’s teams are announced. There has also been a dunk contest before but that may go by the wayside with Miles Bridges gone. Tom Izzo normally dresses up and has a great introduction to the season.

It’ll be interesting to see if he goes full outfit this year or takes a more casual approach with his normal sweats and Spartan zip-up. He has wowed fans over the years with his different looks but with him getting older and closer to retirement, he has toned it down a bit.

Last year, Izzo had a magic act. He has dressed up has a plethora of different characters such as Iron Mountain Man, spaceman, jet fighter, stuntman and many more. What will Izzo have in store for this year’s Michigan State Madness?

The excitement and anticipation is building for the event, especially with the expectations at an all-time high for the Spartans. Luckily for fans, the event comes just over a week before the start of the regular season schedule and four days before an exhibition against Albion in East Lansing, so there won’t be a long wait.
