Michigan State Football: Report card for ugly win over Indiana
A win is a win, but not everyone feels good about Michigan State football’s victory over Indiana on Saturday. Which position groups graded the highest?
The Old Brass Spittoon is staying home for another year. In what is technically considered a rivalry game, Michigan State and Indiana battled it out for 60 minutes and the Hoosiers continue to be a thorn in the Spartans’ side.
For the past few seasons, Indiana has played the Spartans a similar way, staying in the game until the very end with a chance to win the game.
Michigan State was hoping to avoid the fate that 2016 brought with a disappointing loss and a near-upset in 2017 when the Spartans were turning things around. The Spartans wanted more of last year where they dominated the Hoosiers for most of the game.
Mark Dantonio had to game plan for two quarterbacks all week as the Hoosiers were mum on a starter as both Michael Penix Jr. and Peyton Ramsey were listed as potential starters. It all depended on Penix Jr.’s health and he was clearly fine as he completed 32 passes for 286 yards against a usually-stout Michigan State defense.
It wasn’t the best day for the defense but the offensive side of the ball stepped up when it needed to.
