1. Spartans go undefeated

Too optimistic? Maybe, especially considering the first game didn’t quite sell an undefeated September slate to Spartan fans. But you have to look at the matchups and realize that Michigan State might hold each opposing offense over the next month to minimal scoring.

Let’s start with Western Michigan. The Spartans should come out firing on all cylinders offensively as Brad Salem is ready to prove doubters wrong with a nice performance this time around. We might see one heck of an offensive jump from the first to second week and I’m predicting 35-plus points while allowing 17 or less to Jon Wassink and the strong run game of the Broncos.

Next is Arizona State under the lights at Spartan Stadium, showcasing those new lime-green uniforms. It may not be a sight for sore eyes, but the Spartans will get the job done and exact revenge for last year’s tough loss in Tempe by swallowing the freshman quarterback, Jayden Daniels, and making his night forgettable.

Traveling to Evanston for the third matchup of the month will be the most difficult as the Wildcats have had the Spartans’ number for 5-6 years now. That will change as Mark Dantonio gets the right plan in place and Michigan State pulls off the huge road win.

Lastly, the Spartans will host an Indiana team that always seems to give Michigan State a tough time, but they will be clicking on offense at this point and the defense will shut down Michael Penix, the first-year starter at quarterback who beat out Peyton Ramsey, as well as the run game for the second straight season.
