Michigan State football has some high hopes in 2019, but there’s no way the Spartans reach their goals without these five players.

Injuries are a part of sports. Unfortunately, they happen to every team, every year, but some teams get bit by the injury bug slightly harder than others. Michigan State was in pain last season from start to finish from the starting quarterback all the way down to the third-string punter.

It was obvious from the get-go that 2018 was going to be a long season when Jake Hartbarger went down with a broken leg in the second game of the season. It was basically all downhill from there as Brian Lewerke suffered a shoulder injury, Cody White broke his hand, Josiah Scott was out for a good chunk of the year, LJ Scott played in just four games, Felton Davis III tore his Achilles and the year was topped off with a Kenny Willekes broken leg in the Redbox Bowl.

To say 2018 was a forgettable year for Michigan State football would be a massive understatement but the Spartans are optimistic heading into 2019.

The season opener is right around the corner as Michigan State will be hosting a Tulsa team that went 3-9 last year on Aug. 30. This game could dictate the way the season will go.

If everyone stays healthy, this could be a special year for Michigan State but if not, well, it could be more of the same. Which five Spartans would be classified as the most irreplaceable?
