Michigan State basketball made a big move in the recruitment of four-star small forward Cam’Ron Fletcher as he listed the Spartans in his top five.

The 2020 recruiting class has been relatively quiet for Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball.

The Spartans landed four-star point guard Jalen Terry back in April, but with a few spots open in the cycle, it’s been somewhat surprising that there haven’t been any other developments or commitments.

Things could change in the near future, though, as four-star small forward Cam’Ron Fletcher released his top five schools list and Michigan State made the cut.

Izzo has to be pleased not to see Duke or Kansas (who just offered on June 30) but there are two monsters who made the cut who could give the green and white problems. Kentucky and North Carolina will make this recruitment that much tougher for the Hall of Fame head coach, but Fletcher kept the Spartans in his top five after a visit back in March.

Many believe the Spartans are in a good position with Fletcher who is ranked the No. 36 player in the class and the eighth-best small forward, according to 247Sports.

In my opinion, Kentucky may be the biggest threat as the Wildcats just offered on June 22 and immediately entered the race for Fletcher. He was offered on an unofficial visit and that had to catch his attention in a big way — especially seeing how the Wildcats get kids to the league.

Just imagine a class with Terry, Fletcher and a guy like Isaiah Jackson in 2020. That would be one of the most athletic hauls in Izzo’s tenure.

Michigan State is trending in the right direction as a program, but it has its work cut out if it’s going to land Fletcher over UNC and Kentucky.
