Even during the offseason, Michigan State basketball players are hard at work, and a couple recently teamed up with 2022’s top recruit, Emoni Bates.

The offseason is a time for players to get better and reflect on what they could have done the previous year and need to do the following.

For Michigan State basketball, Gabe Brown has been working extra hard and we see videos of him with various trainers on Twitter surfacing almost weekly and on Saturday, he was joined by incoming freshman and the talk of the town, Rocket Watts.

The two worked with Cornell Davis, a basketball skills and development coach, in a local gym and they were actually joined by Michigan State’s top target for the 2022 class, Emoni Bates.

This is great to see, especially since they’re all taking steps in the right direction, but it could be a recruiting opportunity for Brown and Watts since they both would love to see Bates, arguably the 2022 class’ No. 1 overall player, in a green and white uniform.

Plenty of talk has surfaced about the future of the one-and-done rule. The NBA has talked about getting rid of the rule, allowing high school kids to jump straight to the league, but if that new rule doesn’t go into effect until after the 2022-23 school year, there’s a good chance the Spartans will land Bates.

Growing up around the program and taking visits to East Lansing for years, Bates is very familiar with Tom Izzo and the Spartans and he knows he’s their No. 1 target. Will he be heading to college in a couple of years? If so, the Spartans could have a deadly trio with him, Watts and Jalen Terry forming.
