After a top kicker target committed to Ohio State, Michigan State football landed monster-legged Jack Olsen on Saturday.

A week after losing Jack Seibert to Ohio State, Michigan State picked up a monster commitment from one of the best kickers in the 2020 class, Jack Olsen.

Michigan State has a history of landing solid kickers and Mark Dantonio has carried that tradition over the past decade-plus.

Matt Coghlin had an impressive sophomore season in 2018 and looks to be one of the best kickers in the Big Ten in 2019 but when he does depart, the Spartans have the perfect replacement for him in Olsen.

According to Kornblue Kicking, Olsen is ranked the No. 2 underclassman kicker in the country. He’s also listed as a five-star kicker which means he has the talent to start at a major Division 1 program right away.

This is a huge pickup for the green and white as they moved fast to make sure the loss of Seibert to the Buckeyes didn’t hurt too much. Dantonio offered Olsen on June 6 and he committed about a week later, giving the Spartans a monster-legged kicker to replace Coghlin.

Olsen made 20 field goals as a junior and hit an incredible eight in a single game. He has the leg to hit from 40-plus regularly and can even stretch it from 50-60 yards. He’s probably not going to get that type of opportunity, barring a desperation kick, but he can drill it from anywhere and his range is seemingly limitless.

The tradition of elite kickers picking Michigan State continues and Olsen, an Illinois-native, could be the next — let’s just hope he has a strong arm for trick plays.
