Michigan State Football: 4-star S Makari Paige lists top 7 schools
Michigan State football made the cut for four-star safety Makari Paige on Monday, but do the Spartans stand a chance to land him?
The 2020 class is only four strong for the Spartans but Mark Dantonio is just getting started, dishing out a number of offers over the past month, but one kid who has been on the radar for quite some time is four-star West Bloomfield, Mich., safety Makari Paige.
On an unofficial visit in March of last year, Paige earned an offer from Michigan State and he’s been treated as a priority ever since.
Then on Monday, Paige released his top schools list, and Michigan State was one of seven to make the cut.
Along with the Spartans, Michigan, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Purdue, Ohio State and Penn State also made the list. That goes to show just how highly programs think of Paige as he’s one of the highest-rated safeties in the class (No. 18) and he’s the fourth-best player in the state of Michigan as a top-200 recruit, per 247Sports.
Paige is a former teammate of former three-star early enrollee wide out Tre Mosley who is doing his own version of recruiting him.
The Spartans could use another elite safety to join Darius Snow in the 2020 class and continue the tradition of top-tier secondaries in East Lansing. After David Dowell graduates and Xavier Henderson spends a couple of years starting for the Spartans, a combination of Snow and Paige would be huge.
For now, the Spartans will have to hope to win the in-state battle with Michigan and then hold off a team like Ohio State for his services. His 6-foot-3, 182-pound frame has college drooling over him.
